 Cyprus - Day 3

Wow, it has been a crazy busy week.

Yesterday, I went over to the Hertzogs for breakfast, and then we all went to the open market together. I guess they have one every Wednesday/Saturday. We also did the touristy things and I got a few things to bring back with me. I hope my suitcase isn't to heavy. My carry-on's are going to be loaded down too, especially since I'm taking a few things back for the Hertzogs.

Anyway, after that, Chris and walked across the board into the Turkish side of Nicosia. Its amazing how much difference one block can make. Within a block, there is a new language, a new religion, new monetary system, and signficantly less dense city.. just to name a few things. Its very surreal.

I went with Rick, who is doing some Keystone training (via the book of Titus) with a group of Africans, consisting mainly of Cameroonians, but had one individual from Ghana as well. We immediately left that and had dinner with a person I met at the Keystone training. Amazing mean. Seriously.... Amazing.

Anyway, here are some pictures:

This is a mosque over on the Turkish side. It's pretty cool. It was originally a Greek Orthodox Church, but was converted during the Ottoman Empire. I was really surprised that I was allowed to go in and take pictures, especially since it is still in use.

Kind of a cool picture. It kinda gives you a feel for what the city, outside of the touristy stuff, is like on both sides of the border... although much more so on the Turkish side.

Basically, just an outdoor cafe on the Turkish side. They are all over the place I just thought it was kinda cool.

This is a sign blocking access to the UN buffer zone between the Turkish and Greek sides. Apparently, the buffer zone has been pretty much untouched since the UN arrived here in 1974. It supposedly looks exactly the same as it did immediately following the '74 invasion, but they don't let you get close enough to see.

This is another market, just on the Turkish side. Chris bought some REAL Turkish Delight. Good stuff!
